 Roldan Rodriguez Interview

29th July 2007

MCSF Interview with Roldán Rodriguez.

Roldán took time out to speak with us discussing the season so far and the hopes for the remaining races.

  1. We are over half way through the GP2 season. What is your view on the season so far. and which driver has impressed you most?

After the 6 races and all the test we have done I could see in each race the high level the championship has. I think there is no one or two drivers better than the others, I think that in the championship there is at least 8 or 10 drivers which can win races.

  1. How do you view your performance so far?

I think is good, We always have to be better and that is what I want, but in this first half of the season we are constantly in top ten, that is to be happy and good place to keep working to achieve the podium in the second half of the season.

  1. The car seems to have suffered from mechanical problems a lot this year.  Do you see reliability a problem?

That is not true, we have suffered some problems but most of them was not our fault, a lot of drivers in the champ have suffered mechanical problems, I think that the team is working perfect to try to avoid this type of problems.

  1. There is no doubting you are one of the faster drivers in the series but what do you think of your starts? France and Silverstone for example was there technical problems?

It was not technical problems, I was not born with the knowledge of everything, and the starts with GP2 car is one of this things I keep learning.

  1. We read in Minardiblog that you were in contention for a F1 drive with Spyker.  Can you tell us something about this?

I am proud to be racing with Minardi Piquet sports in Gp2 series and there is not anything more to say!.

  1. The Minardi F3000 team have had a lot of success this season. How does this make you feel and is there a good feeling back in Veggiano?

The team is my second family so I am very very happy with his success. The F3000 is a great championship and they are doing a great job there.

  1. Back to GP2 how do you see the results going over the rest of the season? Can we hope to see you on the podium?

That is never easy but everybody in team is working to achieve the podium.

  1. Has the GP2 experience impressed you and do you see it as the final stepping stone to F1?

I think that Gp2 series is the best way to arrive in F1, the car is similar to F1 and the level of the championship prepares you to drive in the other side of the paddock.

  1. You have experience of Budapest last year. What do you think of the track and is it true it is very difficult to pass here?

The experience I have there is much less than the 80% of the Gp2 drivers but at least I was there with F3000 last year, I agree that overtake there is close to impossible unless the driver in front make a mistake.

  1. Thanks Roldán for taking the time. We will be in Valencia to cheer you on and look forward to seeing you then.

I hope you enjoy the Budapest race, I'll try to do the best there.
