A1 Team Italy’s Davide Rigon is targeting more rookie sessions after
becoming the first driver this season to top the session in his maiden
meeting in Mexico City today.
No driver has topped the rookie session in their maiden A1GP meeting
since the USA’s Jonathan Summerton achieved the feat on his debut at
Eastern Creek, Australia 2007.
Rigon, was three tenths quicker than any other driver in the morning
session, and said it was a surprise he went so quickly.
‘I felt great being in the Italian team and it went very, very well,’
Rigon said of his performance, which was the first time Italy has topped
a session all season. ‘The course was bumpy. I have never driven
outside of Europe and it was a very different experience.
‘I’d love to do Shanghai and Brands and maybe some races next year too.
Everybody was pushing very hard and I’ve shown I can be quick in the car
now. Maybe I could be quicker in the car if I have another go!’.
